SEVEN NOISES

Hello again. it's been a long time since my last post, not that I forgot or don't care anymore but I'm on holidays in a place with no internet connection and nice weather so not much in front of the computer and not aware enough of new releases. It's summer time and nothing better than a good compilation for those summer nights and the one I'm covering here is the last one from the series The World's Lousy With Ideas and the first one that is a whole LP and not a 7" single. Almost Ready Records presents this volume 8 of the series with some of the most talked about bands of the season, even more in this blog, and they actually hand out some of their best tunes yet. Vivian Girls' Lake House makes me be really impatient about hearing their soon to be new record; Blank Dogs' Ages Ago is close to be radio friendly; Times New Viking's A Lot of Pai and Thee Oh Sees' Schwag Riffles are contagious and the rest of tunes are also up to the expectations. All the tracks here are exclusive to this compilation and a must have. And it's just released on vinyl so throw away your CD player if you haven't done it yet.

I recently posted about Thee Oh Sees but they have recently released a limited 7' in Woodsist that is worth to comment for different reasons. First of all, it's for Woodsist, reason enough to purchase any release they publish as the quality is guaranteed. Secondly, it consists of two new songs not available anywhere else, Tidal Wave and Heart Sweets that, according to their sound and style, they probably are from the same sessions of their great recently published album Help and both songs could have make it to the album without changing a bit its quality, or even improving it. And also because it's a really limited edition that is probably selling out while I'm writing this post.
This looks like a really busy year for them as they have also published the demos compilation Zork's Tape Bruise and are planning a DVD to be out later this summer.

Thee Oh Sees is not a new band, actually they have many albums and EPs released but it's not been since last year's The Masters Bedroom Is Worth Spending A Night In that they've had a bit of international success. Over the years and the records they have had some transformations: while at the beginning it was a scape for John Dwyer to create instrumental and experimental tunes, they have developed into a more traditional band influenced by 60s garage bands like The Sonics, surf, punk and twee indie noise bands to create catchy songs to sing and dance. And this is definitely their year with the recent publication of Help, their best album to date, and many EPs and singles on the way. It's already a cult band with many crazy fans paying huge amounts of money on Ebay for old, deleted and limited hard to find stuff which only means they are a step further to reach a wider public.
