SEVEN NOISES

The superband The Babies, superband because of their members (Vivian Girl Cassie Ramone, Woods bassist Kevin Morby, Nathaniel Stark and Bossy's drummer Justin Sullivan) not because they have powers, are releasing their first and second single within two weeks. Their first one, All Things Come to Pass / Caroline is out today on Wild World, the label of Vivian Girls has the spirit of those Sarah Record bands, The Pastels, The Vaselines and C86, more slowdown and pop than any of the main bands of the members. Shiny and pop, mostly acoustic and quite optimistic.


The second release to be out in a couple of weeks on Make a Mess records, but you can already order it straight from them on their website. As they say:'Meet Me In The City' and 'Somebody Else' are rollicking pop gems, pungent with sweet harmonies, raucous beats, tambourines, skyscraping guitars.

Get them both before they run out as they are limited editions and, taking into account their members are quite famous, they are going to disappear pretty soon. And I really recomend them both.

After a very good year when they had amazing reviews of their last record, a never ending tour and a couple of great singles, Woods start the new year with a new single, the three track 7 inch I Was Gone. It's a limited edition one time only pressing of 1500 copies and it's already available to order straight from their label Woodsist and soon in other specialized shops / websites. On the A side you have Days Gone By, a three part tape collage more abstract than the stuff they get us used to and on the B side we have two more conventional tracks, the title track I Was Gone and Hang On.
May will see the release of their new album on Woodsist as well but not sure if any of these tracks will make the cut or will remain only available on this issue as there's not any information about it yet. Meanwhile, we'll enjoy them.

Yeti Magazine is an irregular publication it's been on for nearly a decade although they've just released seven numbers so far. You can only get it online and it's about, saying it on their own words, "a general interest magazine for people with marginal interests. Subjects covered include literature, film, unicorns, the stock market, black science fiction writers, Swedish trance-folk bands from the '60s, the roots of Alfred Jarry's Pere Ubu character, John Denver, horror vacuui drawings, streetcorner gospel musicians, sex and comic art".

Every single number comes with an 80 min CD with rare and unreleased tracks from the most interesting artists of the moment. I just discovered the magazine with the last issue, Yeti Seven, and some of the artists included are Dum Dum Girls, Woods, Crystal Stilts, Nodzz, Zola Jesus, Christmas Island, Grouper, and a total of 25 artists including some of the most interesting artists to have emerged this year in the American underground, the magazine is settled in Oregon, but also some international stuff including pop, punk, blues and whatever they think it's interesting. They promise that now the magazine is going to have a periodicity of three numbers per year so just waiting to see what are they going to have in number eight, to be published in October. you can get the magazine or subscribe to four numbers at yetipublishing.com

And yet another record from Capture Tracks, this time from the band everybody's talking about at the moment thanks to great reviews of their last album, Songs of Shame, so probably you'll heard of them before. Even one song on this 7',The Dark, was reviewed in Pitchfork receiving an 8 and the category of Best New Music, the same as the album. So probably there's not much more new things I can say about it they haven't said before apart from recommending to buy this record, mainly for the B Side, The Dark, a perfect catchy summer song about hope that is one of their best songs. And I enclose you to check the label that they run themselves called Woodist that has brought us so far releases from Jana Hunter, Kurt Vile, Blank Dogs, Vivian Girls, Wavves or some of their own records.
